The John Patterson Eggbutt Snaffle is a popular, gently shaped bit with comfortable bars. This reduces pressure on the corners of the mouth and also has all the advantages and features found in John Patterson (JP) bits. JP bits have a curved shape that eliminates the interference that conventional bits can cause. All JP bits feature curved bars that prevent the bit from hitting the roof of the horse's mouth and eliminate the nutcracker-like action that can pinch a horse's tongue. Available in sizes 4 1/2 inches, with 2 3/4 inch rings.

Eldonian Baucher Eggbutt Bits

The baucher bit has an eggbutt-like ring at the mouthpiece for the rein and a small ring to which the cheekpieces of the bridle are attached.

This bit lies flat against the horse's face, and because of the way it attaches to the bridle, is quite fixed in the mouth. This gives it a more elevated position on the horse's tongue and concentrates pressure on the bars. Contrary to common belief, this bit does not create poll pressure.
